It all began with a CUI graduate who found himself teaching English in Hungary when His eyes were opened to a great need for the gospel. Decades of communism had worked to remove Christ from the public square. While some religious rituals were still allowed, the communal life of the body of Christ was not. The government expelled Christian leaders, took ownership of Christian school buildings, and changed educational curriculum. Even after communism fell in Hungary, it had already created a void in entire generations. Seeing a hunger and thirst for the gospel, that CUI alumnus contacted his alma mater.
In response, since the year 2000, CUI has sent a team to Hungary every other summer to share the gospel through English camps for 5th-12th grade students. Through the years, increasing interest and growth led to the addition of a second week of camp, allowing participation of over 200 campers. In classroom and dormitory, from early morning meals to late-night conversations, life is shared between Americans and campers. Through every activity, be it worship, bible study, game, music or craft, we teach English, build life-long relationships, and share God’s grace in Jesus Christ. As time goes on, we continue to hear from the Hungarian teachers about how God uses these camps to transform the lives of their students, families, and communities.
Rotating between multiple host schools, this summer we return to the city of Sopron with a team of 20+. With all there is to plan and the funding that is needed, we hope you will consider partnering with us to make this gospel opportunity possible. We covet your prayers as we seek to be faithful in sowing the seed of the gospel. Welcome to our team!
“How will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!’…So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:14-15, 17
